Official: Cobb County Gas Station Charged $8.82 A Gallon
Friday 09-26-2008 2:43pm ET
ATLANTA -- The state has subpoenaed sales records from 130 gas stations after complaints of price gouging in the wake of Hurricane Ike this month.
Bill Cloud with the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs said that number will only grow as state officials wade through hundreds of reports from angry customers.
He said the state has a receipt from a gas station in Cobb County that charged $8.82 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. He said another customer called to say a station in Houston County charged $7 a gallon.
Ike shut down many Gulf Coast refineries because of power outages, leaving Georgia gas stations with little gasoline to refill tapped pumps.
If you suspect price gouging, you’re asked to call the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs at 404-651-8600 or 800-869-1123.
